Green Gloves

I had this thing here and it was interesting and it made me think and i wrote some things about it and it was a quarter post, and then i realised it wasn't interesting at all and now it isn't here anymore.

i like this unrelated quote a lot:

I'd like to share a revelation that I've had during my time here. It came to me when I tried to classify your species and I realized that you're not actually mammals. Every mammal on this planet instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with the surrounding environment but you humans do not. You move to an area and you multiply and multiply until every natural resource is consumed and the only way you can survive is to spread to another area. There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is? A virus. Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet. You're a plague - The Matrix (1999)

Did you know the world population growth rate is slowing down. It's still a growth rate, but it's slowing down. You could consider it like a negative parabola graph. I thought this was interesting.

1)  Do you have a middle name? If not, what would you make your middle name?
Nong. It was given to me but I pretty much never use it, although it's on a lot of my ID things. Like my L's license. I drove for the first time today and I guess the first time is the most difficult. I was like 3/4 off the curb and then there was a car there. And my dad said to go back so the other car could drive past, and it took me longer than it should have but the other guy was cool with it. I think he chuckled. Red P's. "I was like that once". Driving was ok. This one time a couple of years ago my brother's friends were over and they were playing NFS and said how it was harder than real driving (we have game steering wheels that replace controllers). I was good at that game. I remember having bad dreams about driving during high school, I remember one was when I was driving a 4WD through a carpark in Eastwood and there were pedestrians, and they were walking next to the car and popped, like balloons. I probably ended up posting something like that. Some dreams you dream and forget and something triggers the memory in a couple of years. Something about archived memories and To the Moon. When you think back and try to remember you can't just simply remember everything like that. But the memories are still there, just archived. Maybe some archived memories will never be returned to. Maybe that's the true meaning of forgotten. "Archived, but never recalled"

When I went back to China in 08 my relatives had my middle name confused with "long", i.e. "dragon" and started calling me Li Xiao Long. "Xiao" means "small" and Li Xiao Long is Bruce Lee's name. I've also talked about this before probably definitely. I always thought that they simply misheard it or something. But thinking back, it makes no sense that they would get it confused. I even remember asking my mum why they were saying it as "long". I ended up googling it a few minutes ago and one of the things that came up was that they can be pronounced similarly because something something, whatever.
I would be okay without a middle name. To most people I don't have one.

2) Name a pet peeve of one of your parents.
My parents are both cool and pretty chill with most things.

My mum doesn't like it when my dad sits at his desk in front of the laptop, "working". Because a lot of the time it is just sleeping at the desk. It's quite funny.

Although there isn't much of that these days.

3) Which European country would you most like to visit?
Honestly, none of them. I am not much for travelling.

But that's an invalid answer to this question and dodging questions is bad.

I googled a list. UK.

4) What was the happiest day of your life? If you can’t remember, what makes you the happiest?
I'm not sure, but I remember some happy days. And the nature of those days make me laugh at "ontological rootedness". I should go and look for that definition again so I don't start misusing terms.

From that time Davy made a post:
What I actually found interesting was the idea that love in society is becoming an idea that transcends normal comprehension, and thus is beginning to replace religion as a basis of what he called "ontological rootedness". That is, it's becoming an all-dominating feeling, one that ultimately surpasses everything and overshadows all other aspects of life. Why? Because it's become something solid, something that can form the basis of your life. And once you have a basis for your life, it dominates everything you do, etc. There was a bit on why we need the basis of our life to be external from ourselves, except it didn't make all that much sense to me. Something about external factors being outside our control.
That day when artshow and variety night was pretty ok. Going to copacabana was also quite alright.
They were times like these you learn to live again, learning to walk again,\ and of course there was always the acknowledgement and acceptance* of all good things being temporary,\ if only everything could ever be this good again, I always get the lyrics incorrect and it's okay.
*acceptance being "well, [screw] it, I can't control time or prolong the present, soon there will be nothing left, the more I think about it the faster that time will come"

5) Name three things on your desk.
Mouse, keyboard, monitor.

Other notable objects which might be more interesting to consider are:
  • packet of cherry ripes, from that time when identity.
  • a card that says "Hi Dan, / You're the man. / We wonder if you can / keep coming to PB instead of LAN". From those people that I would see on fridays. Judging by the dates of the services outlined on this card, it came into my possession sometime in early September.
  • a latin dictionary
  • a bowl that used to contain food
  • a lot of old latin notes. Some of them are being used as a "food pad".
  • two unopened boxes of strepsils from that time when I had just finished recovering from having a cold. Winter 2011? Spring? Not sure.
    • edit: turns out these were for that time where i had no voice near the end of school

6) In your opinion, what is the most useless gift you can give?
Soap, unless you are making a joke at my expense.

7) A language you wish you had complete mastery over?
Mandarin.
If I had to choose to know one language and only one language, it would be English.

8) What do you wish you had learnt as a child and developed so you were good at it now?
Some qualified adults commented that I could sing. Then I never sang, and now I don't sing.

It's either that or Mandarin.

9) Your favourite feature physically? (Don’t say you don’t like anything!)
Fingers. I like how they are ok at being coordinated.

10)  Your favourite thing personality-wise?
\I think I am right a lot, and I like that. What I mean by this is probably better explained by example.
Someone says to me that "funner" isn't a word after I use it. I am aware of the comparative phrase "more fun", but tell them that funner is a word. And insist upon it. Like, really really really insist upon it.
Maybe they will want to be superior through rightness and say that it's grammatically "more fun". And I will tell them "no, I don't give a [care] about grammar, funner is a word". If they demand a reason, I will tell them because I said so.
Or maybe they will just drop it because they realise it's a stupid thing to talk about, or because they think I'm [silly], or because they realise that it actually doesn't matter. At all.

Anyway, that probably doesn't do much for explaining things, or help at all. I suppose if you wanted a deeper reason, I believe that words and language should have the primary purpose of conveying meaning, full stop. I think swear words are interesting because of their ability to convey all sorts of meanings that are irrelevant to their literal meaning. Communication is more dependant on things like tone and volume, and less dependant on literal meaning, and swear words are the perfect example of this. They're used in a way that makes their literal meaning completely irrelevant. They're like a method of conveying your tone. Tone only exists if you have words to accompany it. Sometimes you don't have words, but you do have an emotion like say, frustration, and all you want to do is convey your frustration, and shouting out "I'm frustrated!/I'm frustrated at you!" isn't the most effective way to convey that. I think I've said something about swear words and their use before.

And I guess that's why funner is a word.

I mean, "funner" is a lot more fun as a word than "more fun" is as a phrase.
I mean, "funner" is way funner as a word than "more fun" is as a phrase.

hmm, don't know
\Conversely, I don't like it when I am wrong. I will acknowledge it and then forget about it as soon as possible, because I don't like it. I was wrong when I said that surveys like these being pointless. They're alright, and I hope you enjoy this.
Also, I guess this is quite irrelevant to "personality" but screw you, I'm not deleting it.
I think that, once the ice is broken, I'm a fun person, provided there is some medium for fun. I don't think I can generate fun, I can only extract it from the situation.
But that's not really much.
My favourite thing is that I will throw fun out the window when there is some serious concern. I'll be reliable.
I'll try at least.

11) Do you want to change yourself this year?
I don't want to change myself, and I also don't not want to change myself.

If I were to improve upon myself, I would value my friends and family more.
12) What are you planning to study?
Computer science / commerce combined at UNSW. Not because I want to, but because I don't not want to.

13) Are you an Apple person?
I have an ipod nano 6th generation and it's perfect except for that time where the button broke because of poor design, it was a common problem with the model. But it actually was perfect except for that. It was in warranty so the cost of replacement was public transport on 2 days.

14) What is your favourite word?
Special,

15) Do you like the date of your birth?

I found it amusing when harvard.

Do I like my birth date? I don't know.

Well, "I don't know" is a horrible answer because it's not true.

I don't dislike it.

Maybe it will hold more significance in the future, but at the moment it's really just the same as any day for me.

People tend to be good at remembering my birthday.

I'm not good at remembering others' birthdays.

 16) What is the coolest thing you have made?
I guess it defaults to that flash game that is up there.

17) Introvert or extrovert?
Introvert
?
18) Do you prefer lemons or limes?
They are both ok, and I don't prefer either. But for the purpose of this it has to be limes.

19) What do you find the most annoying “first world problem”?
internet problems

20) Do you behave differently at home?
I behave differently with my family than with friends.

21) What is your favourite kind of shopping? Or do you dislike all forms of shopping?
I like it when I think "oh, I want to buy this" and then buy it online.

22) What are your views on feminism? (Sorry.)
There is a purpose to its existence and I am quite okay with it and support some aspects of it.

I guess as with any other personal belief or value, I don't like it when people violently shove it onto others, or shout about it very loudly on the internet in the thought that their opinion has value.

Like that time there was something related to HSC economics which also happened to be related to feminism, and then it was on facebook and there was argument.

I thought that was  ...
unnecessary.

23) On a scale of 1 to 10 with 1 being hermit and 10 being aware of things practically before they happen how aware of world events are you?
7.5, I don't watch the news because of some things, which are things, but recently I've added worldnews reddit to my bookmarks toolbar.

When I read things there, sometimes I react normally, sometimes I am desensitised and go through the headlines thinking "yeah, ok, bad [stuff] happening everywhere again, mm hm".

24) What will you do when you retire?
Whatever I want, I guess. This isn't something I know at this moment in time.

25) If you were designing your future house, what style would you have?
some modern design that isn't too hard to maintain and makes sense.

it would look nice, as well.

26) What is an appliance you would love to own?
I am ok with everything as it is right now, can't think of anything. A sandwich toaster.

27) Will you drive a Toyota when you grow up?
I don't know. my mums car is a toyota and the other one isn't and i don't know which one i will be driving. oh, when i grow up. i don't know. i will get a car that makes sense to have.

28) What is a common expression of the 21st century you cannot stand?
hmmm, I wish I had a list.

but I can't be bothered googling it. Googling is an ok expression.

"u mad?"
I don't like this that much, and often use "how mad are you" or "how mad are you right now" as a substitute, when there is a need for this expression.

29) Describe something that has happened to you that you were so sure would not happen or vice versa.
I think I'm okay with deducing how things will turn out. Not many surprises. I am trying to think of one.

-----

Hi. I'm still here. I don't know.

30) What are your plans for your blog’s future?
No plans.
Most likely, it will continue existing.

Maybe I need to change the title.

And I should go through my posts and manually create a list/archive of the ones that I thought were ok. I think this one was ok.

Well, I guess there are plans now.

It's 3:55 at the moment, and ever since beginning of HSC study/vacation I've been sleeping later than most people, to the extent that, the other day, when I had the opportunity to sleep at 3 I decided not to because it was too early.
I saw this on facebook and I thought about it.

I am going through my posts now and copying the ones that are alright. Some of the things that I say are really great and I'm going to make a quote page on top of the archives. I guess I will skim read until I am done archiving this year, then go to sleep. Not sure if I want to do last year tomorrow or the next night I have free time (ie not dota), or begin the quote page.

"...There are shining stars flying out of it. But the once rainbow layers are disjointed and sagging. Like they've been steamrolled. They aren't shining. In fact, they are doing the exact equal and opposite of shining like stars. They are unshining. Like not-stars."

"unshining like not-stars" I can't emphasise how much I like this.

and there were other really nice ones but i moved on to other posts

Same, if I could only choose one language it'd still be English.
